Backlighted bar made of HI-MACS®

Hotel Puerta America: Renowned architects build entire floors out of HI-MACS®.

What happens when 19 of the best architects and designers in the world jointly design a hotel together? What emerges at the end is a fantastic architectural world of experiences.
The Spanish hotel group Silken invited the Premier League of international master builders to refurbish its building on the Avenida de América in Madrid. They included Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, Ron Arad, David Chipperfield, Marc Newson but also a wealth of young designers.
Each of the twelve floors bears the signature of a different architect - different shapes and styles, new materials and extraordinary lighting concepts converge in the overall beauty of the building. And each room is a small masterpiece in its own right. On 7 floors always on hand? HI-MACS®, which is virtually inspiring many of the participating designers to create their audacious designs.

The designs appear to flow into each other with HI-MACS®.

Zaha Hadid designed the lobby, corridors and rooms of the first floor as if they were a science fiction film set. The main player: HI-MACS®.
Lighting, walls and furniture appear to flow - in a uniform colour, but varying from room to room. Some rooms are dipped in fiery red, dramatic black or clean white. The entire furniture in the rooms is also manufactured in visually seamless HI-MACS® and comes over like a massive one-piece installation. The material can also be found in the bathrooms: baths grow out of the walls, overflow into washbasins and create the impression that they could take on new forms at any time.
Yet there are also rooms with less of a futuristic feel: straight lines and elegant black dominate David Chipperfield's design and circles play much more of a key role with Ron Arad’s designs. It is ideal that HI-MACS® has circular sinks in its range or can easily be formed thermoplastically into circular shapes.
The translucent qualities of HI-MACS® come to the fore in the Lobby area: the floral intarsia of Christian Liaigre was milled out of the material using CNC technology and then atmospherically backlit. Marc Newson allowed his occasional tables to radiate, thanks to the usage of HI-MACS® - Ivory White.
