“RE: generation” is the name of a new permanent exhibition which opened in Warsaw on 4th March. In conjunction with the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, which was inaugurated in November 2010, and Archimedes, Berlin, an exhibition has been created which is aimed at 17 to 25-year olds. With around 80 exhibits, displayed in an area of 1,000 square metres, Archimedes presents an exclusive show of knowledge that was specially devised and realised for this target group. The media stations invite visitors to make fascinating and exciting discoveries which also include a certain element of curiosity and fun. The exhibition’s underlying idea is that visitors will interact with the exhibits, play with them and make discoveries.
Robust and adaptable
The Archimedes designers looked for a material that would allow them to implement their creative ideas and which would also meet practical requirements. Archimedes chose solid surface HI-MACS®, as the product possesses special properties that are crucial when it comes to designing and building exhibits: This acrylic stone can be processed very flexibly. It can be cut, glued and shaped without difficulty and is thus ideal for realising creative ideas. Furthermore, being extremely durable and robust, it requires little care and maintenance. Since the interactive points and surfaces of the exhibits are exposed to constant use, HI-MACS® was naturally the first choice.
The material for all exhibits was 12 mm thick, with the exception of Exhibit 29 “Felix the Robot”, for which 6 mm HI-MACS® natural acrylic stone was used.
The designers
Archimedes is an agency specialising in exhibition design and communication, mainly in the areas of science and research. They plan, design and realise exhibition projects, exhibits and event tools all over the world. Their focus is on communication between “science”, “research” and the individual.
