Superb HI-MACS® creation at Sleep

The Sleep Event

Possibly one of the best recent examples of showing the spectacular design advantages of HI-MACS® was the exhibit created by JOI Design at the recent Sleep exhibition at London’s Business Design Centre.

The centrepiece was a single form bed and bath interconnected by a workstation bridge to form a seamless and flowing form that was stunning to the eye. The extraordinary properties offered by HI-MACS® as a material allowed the designer and fabricator to achieve a seamless, smooth surface with infinite contours that ensured no apertures or grooves in which dust, dirt or grime could possibly collect. Of course the selection of HI-MACS® placed absolutely no restrictions on the 3-dimensional aspect of the creation.

Accessory furnishing like the basin shelf and basin were also formed from HI-MACS® as were the shaped wall and intriguing integral light panel that flowed out from the wall surface to conceal an up-lighter bulb that also showed through the mystical translucent HI-MACS® panel.

JOI Design, an architectural firm from Hamburg, specialise in designing, creating and installing original projects in the hotel and restaurant sectors, particularly high-end international hotels. Sabrina Wilms, a designer at JOI- Design comments: "These days, society is making spiritual and physical well-being more and more of a priority. This is why we chose to work with the beauty of the ocean, which is a source a well-being. We also chose to incorporate the bathroom into the bedroom as we feel that these two elements play an integral role in people's well-being".

JOI Design worked with the fabricator Heinrich Viethen, a partner of the HI-MACS® strategic distributor, Kloepferholz. "Thanks to the quality of this material, I was able to create the shapes that I wanted. HI-MACS® is a true innovation!" says Heinrich Viethen. This bedroom highlights the versatility of HI-MACS ® for various applications, as Heinrich Viethen attests: "HI-MACS® appealed to me especially for its excellent thermoformability, its resistance to stains and wear, and of course for its incredible aesthetic appeal which allows it to work well with all types of interior designs and architectures. It would not have been possible to make this marine inspired bedroom without the unique properties of the material: translucence; thermoformability and assembly without visible joints".
