The first major HI-MACS® press event in Spain

For the first time, LG Hausys hosted a “Fabrication Day” for the Spanish Press, in order to show the infinite processing possibilities of HI-MACS®.

LG Hausys, the producer of HI-MACS®, the architectural solid surface brand, wanted to show the capabilities of this innovative material. So they organised a day-event at the Cándido Hermida facilities – one of the official HI-MACS® distributors in Spain - to give participants the opportunity to experience personally the planning design, production and processing of this amazing product. The one-off event, with painstaking care for the smallest detail, enthused the guests, revealing the latest technologies and the most innovative applications of this product in architecture and interior design. Participants were able to experiment directly and have a hands-on experience of the processing versatility afforded by HI-MACS®. The various journalists were also able to assist in the complete development of a decorative item, from its initial planning design to the finished product. During the day-long event, participants also got the chance to visit the main headquarters of Cándido Hermida which, together with Alpisa, is one of the official HI-MACS® distributors in Spain.

A company like LG Hausys perfectly sums up the symbiotic relationship between tradition and respect for artisanal tradition, with the use of the most sophisticated and innovative technologies and materials. The event saw the participation of Frederic Williame, vice chairman of LG Hausys Europe, Christian Doucet, head of sales for Southern Europe, and Mariana Fredes, press officer for HI-MACS®; as well as Juan Carlos Domínguez, director of the New Materials division at Cándido Hérmida and Anton Nabuurs, founder of Global Vacuum Presses.

Participants were given a practical presentation of the complete process from creation and development to the production of a decorative object, designed especially for the occasion. The star event of the day took place in one of the industrial facilities of the Galicia-based company. Guests took part in the complete process for the creation of a piece of design, from the construction of the mould to the real time production of the object, in this case the Cala vase support, resulting from the inspiration of the designer from Granada, Verónica Martínez. The Spanish designer, a finalist in the professionals category at the recent HI-MACS® 2011 Design Competition, took part in the event and personally illustrated both the feelings of the designer (who frequently uses HI-MACS®), and the degree of involvement the artist has with the creative process of an object. The designer declared “from the point of view of design and architecture, the versatility of HI-MACS® for the creation of any three-dimensional shape is unrivalled. In addition to its physical properties and to its immutable qualities, HI-MACS® is a unique material that allows you to let your creativity run free".

The common denominator of definitions such as thermoforming, translucence, sublimation, visibly seamless joins, and names the likes of Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, David Chipperfield, Rafael Moneo, Orä-Ito or Ron Arad, is HI-MACS® : the latest-generation acrylic stone for the architecture of the future.
