WOART (work out art) is the title of artworks made from Hi-MACS® by Icelandic artist Andrea Maack. In this work Maack created three pairs of “usable” dumbbell-weights with the markings (5-7 and 11kg) that were inconsistent with the weight of the Hi-MACS® sculptures on purpose. These pieces were made and exhibited in 2007 and are currently on display at Maack´s representative gallery in Iceland.
“I sculpt HI-MACS® by hand and cnc-machining. I chose HI-MACS® because of its unique material properties, seamless and solidity. That’s why I have used it for my past projects and I will use it for some of my upcoming projects as well” the visual artist explains.
Visual artist Andrea Maack´s work balances the line between art and fashion. She uses her mixed media technique to form a basis for her artwork that borderline with fashion and play with the concept of wearable and usable art.
Andrea Maack graduated from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2005 and has since exhibited her work both locally and internationally. Since 2006, Andrea has also been a board member of The Living Art Museum and served as the director of Sequences Real-Time Arts Festival in Reykjavik in 2007.
