Thermoforming

The creation of 3D objects by thermoforming.

The material properties of HI-MACS® enable the HI-MACS® sheets to be thermoformed into two- or three-dimensional objects under the controlled effects of heat. The material can be moulded to such an extent that a very small radius can be produced:

  1. The oven must heat the entire sheet from 160° to 180° for the thermoforming to be successful.
  2. Once heated to the required temperature remove the piece with heat-resistant gloves from the oven and place directly into a mould. Male and female moulds are required and the material must be allowed to shrink into the mould.
  3. Leave the sheet in the mould until it has has cooled down.
  4. Sand and finish off to a standard semi-gloss finish.
